Action Adventure: Tips on Welcoming Beginners

Wondering how to introduce your friends to the world of table top gaming? Having to explain the complexity of an action adventure roleplaying game may sound complicated and difficult. However, there are ways to make it easier. All you have to do is be patient and clear when describing the game.
Here are some tips to help you out:
Hold an Introductory Session
It may be confusing for beginners to be introduced to an ongoing game because they have no idea what’s going on. To make them feel more welcome and less intimidated, hold an introductory session just for them. Think of it like a pilot episode of a show wherein you’ll introduce the different characters and establish the story.
Take it Easy
Avoid using high-crunch games for beginners as they have to learn basic skills and rules first. Instead, choose a game that you know by heart and would want to play with these people for several times. If you know the game very well, you’ll have no problem explaining every rule, character, and circumstance. You will also be able to answer any questions they may have.
Be Creative
Be vivid and descriptive with your language. This way, you help the players see and feel what the game is all about and the world it is set. It’s also your responsibility to help stir their creativity and imagination so that they can roleplay in the best way they can.
Keeping these in mind should help you pull in new players. Just remember to keep the first session short to avoid overloading them with information. By the end of the session, you should be able to see who’s really into it and who is not.
